Abrupt Silence

My blog came to an end almost before it started. I had another blog post ready to publish, apart from a photo I needed to shot in world. And I had a list with ideas and topics I wanted to blog.

Then it happened...

I hadn't been able to use InWorldz for a few days, but early morning 22nd July before going to work, I logged in to InWorldz to thank Blad for an invitation he had sent me for his "Grand Opening of Bali Ballroom". But I told him that I would not be able to be online at that time.

A little time before going home from work that same day, I heard the news that a bomb had exploded in Oslo. When I reached home, news started to arrive from the youth massacre at Utøya. Of course the plans I and a friend had for cinema and eating in Oslo that same evening (why I couldn't join Blad's "Grand Opening") was canceled. I was home the whole evening, but I was unable to log into a virtual world when the real world was so absurd. I spent a day or two where I updated a thread in the SLU forums about the current Norwegian news about the situation.

I was starting my summer holiday a few days later, and decided I would take a total break from my virtual life until after my holiday. Back from holiday, I still couldn't make myself to log into a virtual world. I felt strong reluctance about it, and after a month since I was last in InWorldz, I decided that I would give up my mainland sim I had owned for over a year. I decided to go to InWorldz to clean and pick up all my belongings on the sim before the region due date for paying. But I still couldn't make myself to log in, and bought myself time by paying tier for another month. Finally I managed to log in, two months after I logged in last time.

Currently I own no sim, and I am on an indefinitely hiatus from all virtual worlds. I might visit again at some time later. I don't know.

Consequently, also my blog is dead.

InWorldz Viewer - Waiting patiently for next version

I am so looking forward for the next official InWorldz viewer!

I have been using Imprudence for a very long time, and I'm still very happy with it. But a few months ago when I tried the IW-viewer, it made me discover that the railing of a go-kart track I had made using Imprudence, was a total mess.

At that time I didn't try to find out why. I just hoped that it would correct itself soonish, and went back to Imprudence where I was shown what I wanted to see. A couple of weeks ago, I tried the IW-viewer again (version 1.2.7.1), and it was still like before. When I investigated, I found that the IW-viewer isn't able to show a torus with hole size less than 0.05. I had used quite a few of them when building my track.

I decided to make a Mantis, but found that there already was a recent report about it: http://inworldz.com/mantis/view.php?id=1006  (need to log in to read)

Therefore I added a note with my observations, and shortly after, which is about a month ago, the Mantis-report was closed with a "resolved".

Yay! :)

Every day for the last month, I have waited for a new version with the fix. I might still use Imprudence as my main viewer, but at least then I know that it doesn't look messed up for everyone else who aren't using Imprudence.

Yesterday I suddenly got the idea that I should check out other builds I had made, and quite correctly, I have obviously fallen in love with using toruses with hole size less than 0.05. Quite a lot looked terribly messed up. Another example is shown under.

My first blog

So here is my first blog article - ever.

And like writing my first short blog article, I actually plan to also perform another action for the first time in my life. I will make my first tweet ever. I have used Twitter daily for information purposes for quite a while, but never made a single tweet. Yet I have 15 followers, strangely enough.

I'm an avatar who live in the virtual worlds, and currently spend most of my virtual time in the InWorldz grid.

The idea to make my own blog hit me just yesterday. For years I have read several blogs related to virtual worlds, daily. I don't have any clear idea about where I want to go with my blog, and I have a feeling the lack of vision maybe isn't the best start. Will it live?

Everything I'll write, I'll write for my own sake. If just one single other person should find an article I write worthy to kill their time, I will be satisfied. But I don't count on it, and will write solely because I want to write. (Hello air, how is it breathing today?)

The topics will probably mostly be related to virtual worlds, with my own touch on it. There is a danger of too much navel contemplation of course, but that is the way it is.

My experience in virtual worlds started four and a half years ago, when I registered my first avatar in Second Life in february 2007. Before that however, I had played a game called A Tale In The Desert, which also was a kind of a virtual world. From several (and I mean lots of different) reasons, I quit using SL during 2009. After about a year mainly in OSGrid, where I managed to run my own region from my home laptop, I decided to make InWorldz my main virtual home last summer. My membership in InWorldz is from March 2009, which is even before InWorldz' official startup (1st April, 2009). But during the first year, I only occasionally visited InWorldz.

Beside InWorldz, Second Life and OSGrid, I have visited several other grids. I can mention OpenLife (my first other grid outside SL), 3rd Rock Grid, Reaction Grid, Blue Mars, New World Grid and Legend City Online (registered, but never logged in), in addition to other places like Frenzoo, Lively and First Meta.

I havn't played much with the design of my blog yet. It will change.
